We did this trip last September, as an alternate to the annual VT trip, because of disastrous flooding and weather. It was really fun, and several people commented that we should plan this ahead in 2024. So here it is!
We will be camping at the Epsom Valley Campground, at 990 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom, NH again. It is a Safari Field, with hook ups for H2O and Shore Power/30A/120V at each site. Restrooms and showers are nearby and easily accessible to the Safari Field.
These are challenging trails! The NH Class VI routes we have planned (which are subject to change) are some of the toughest roads available in NH. If you have not been to our Pennywise property, there's trails and obstacles that are very challenging. A lot of members choose to opt out of some of these optional trails and obstacles.
Every Member Ticket includes:
- Driver Ticket with two breakfasts and an event tee shirt, 2 nights of camping (Friday and Saturday), at least two wheeling trips and two breakfasts (both on Saturday and Sunday).
- Adult guest tickets include the same amenities at a lower cost per ticket, 50% off.
- Children Tickets (under 16) will include the same at an even lower rate - either free or with an optional $25 tee shirt.
Suggested Rig Requirements:
- Two-Way Radios Set to Channel 5 all weekend.
- 33 Inch tires, one locking differential, Bonus points if you have a winch. Consider this the hardest wheeling you have ever done if you meet these minimum requirements.
- We recommend two lockers and a winch and 35s.
- All recovery points are subject to inspection by a Board of Directors member or appointed volunteer.
- We highly recommend skid plates and body protection.
- Please bring some trail work tools, most of the trail clearing for the year is complete but not all of it - plus, weather just happens and changes trail conditions all the time.
Here is the itinerary for the weekend:
- Friday - 3pm to 8pm. Set up your camping area. Friday evening is for setting up for the weekend and socializing.
- Saturday - 8am - Breakfast at the group area, under the 20x10 EZ-Up style canopy.
- Club Volunteers are making breakfast, just stop in around 8am.
- If you have a diet restriction or special request - email members@mohawk4x4.org and we will TRY to add items to our shopping list. All shopping will be done as close to the event as possible by Mike and Lara.
- Saturday - 9am - GET READY TO CONVOY TO THE TRAILS!
- Get your rig in line behind the Trail Guides at 9am. We will air down and disconnect closer to the trails we're using.
- Trail Guides, Trail Gunners and Belt Gunners will determine the route based on the rigs in attendance, but the trails will be at least a Blue Trail Rating and leaning towards how we define a Black Trail Rating with rock ledge crawling/climbing in excess of 18" to 24". This is a NH Class VI road trip.
- 9:15am - Safety Meeting in front of Trail Guides' Rigs. This is mandatory.
- Trail Guides may arrange our convoy order for the day. If we do, please stick to this order.
- Saturday Lunch - This will be around 1pm and on the trails both days.
- Saturday Night - Pot Luck Dinner when we return to the campground. Bring a dish - any dish. No sign ups required. We'll have a fire going that everyone is welcome to join.
- Sunday - 8am - Stop in the club area for breakfast again!
- Sunday - 9am - Safety Meeting at the Campground. Sunday Trails will be at our Mohawk 4x4 Adventures, private property - Pennywise. We will line up behind the trail guides again. (If you need to get gas, don't wait. Get it before breakfast or as soon as you eat.) Please air down if you need to and disconnect your sway bars AT the campground. The trails are only 10 minutes away and we'll use Class VI Roads of NH to get to Pennywise. We will get any safety meetings done ASAP and head out. Our goal is to be wheeling by 10am. WE WANT TO LEAVE THE CAMPGROUND AT 9:30am.Aired down, disconnected sway bars and ready to roll.
- PLEASE bring chainsaws, loppers, saws and various limb removal tools.
- We did trail work up there on May 11, but had to leave some downed trees for another time. 90% of the trail clearing has been done.
- Sunday Night Ride - "That's a terrible idea. What time?" TBD
- Monday - no wheeling, everyone must be checked out on time. This makes Sunday evening more relaxing. Sunday camping will be optional within ticket sales.
MONEY STUFF
Members do ask from time to time about costs vs surplus. Let's start by saying, the Board of Directors are volunteers. There is no compensation. Nobody is doing a side hustle on your dime.
- This event is a fundraiser for our non-profit club. Surplus will be reinvested in our club logistics and trail access projects.
Your registration and payments are a dues assessment. All surplus is put into operations and our objectives. We want to be clear about, goals, objectives and the mission of the club. We CANNOT refund any registrations as a dues assessment. We DO have a donations only ticket. Currently, donations are sent to the land fund with a 50/50 split to the OFR fund. *** This registration process doesn't allow different donation buttons, so the club does it manually, after the event. ***
- If you register and have to cancel, we will make a new spot available but we can't refund the dues assessment. It becomes a donation.
- Mohawk 4x4 Adventures, Inc. wishes to be clear and transparent for transactions by our membership! All of our bank statements can be shared as a screen capture.
This event by is by Invitation Only. By our members and for our members. *** If we have additional room, we will put this out there at the same cost plus $37.50 for a guest membership. Guest membership will provide an opportunity for a 50% discount on club dues within 30 days. This has been a good tool for recruiting new members, but we cannot guarantee tee shirt sizes/availability. Guest membership protects the investment of our paid members - or pretty close. Hey! If they don't join it will still help our treasury. If people do jon, it is even MORE beneficial to our membership. ***
Confirmation - please remember to save the PDF included in the final announcement. It has directions, itinerary and stuff.
